The Universal Toilet
This toilet is a combination of VitrA’s unique electrical toilets and the Nano Membrane Toilet that is designed by Cranfield University in response to the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation's Reinvent Toilet Challenge. It is a flush toilet to be more hygienic.
VitrA:
1. Has adjustable water and drying temperatures, nozzle position, water pressure, and heated toilet seat.
2. The Features can be controlled by the remote control for a hands-free experience.
3. The toilets’ lid automatically opens when approached and closes after use.
4. The position of the integrated spray nozzle/ faucets/ bidet can be moved into 5 different positions for gender specific washing options
5. The toilet cleans itself after every use.
6. Energy efficient

Nano Membrane Toilet:
1. For approximately 10 people (single household) and used as urine and faeces.
2. It is flushed without using any power or water due to its rotating mechanism.
3. Solids separation (faeces) is accomplished through sedimentation.
4. Loosely bound water (mostly from urine) is separated using low glass transition temperature hollow-fibre membranes.
5. The unique nanostructured membrane wall facilitates water transport in the vapour state rather than as a liquid state which yields high rejection of pathogens and some odorous volatile compounds.
6. The water is collected for watering plants and cleaning the house.
7. It needs to be refilled every 3 months and it costs 5 cents per user per day.
